Sikh groups launch campaign against turban ban

JALANDHAR: http://www.punjabiturban.com/gallery.htm Sikh groups have launched a campaign in Canada against a Montreal-based soccer league's decision to ban turbaned and Patka-wearing Sikhs from playing soccer.  United Sikhs, which is spearheading the advocacy campaign, has also written to LaSalle Minor Soccer Association demanding withdrawal of the decision, which it says is in violation of the Canadian charter of rights. The association some weeks back had told LaSalle's Aneel Samra, 17, that he would not be allowed to play house league soccer in Canada if he insisted on wearing a turban. Several dozen other Sikh youth in the area were also told the same thing.http://www.punjabiturban.com/gallery.htm
